PUTNAM TOWNSHIP - An offer for free weddings in Hell on Friday in honor of Leap Day has been met with huge enthusiasm.
John Colone, owner of Screams Ice Cream & Halloween Store, 4045 Patterson Lake Road, said the little chapel
behind his store in the Putnam Township hamlet is booked solid from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
As of Tuesday, 30 ceremonies, both civil and religious, had been scheduled, Colone said. The response was so great, he added, that people had to be turned away.
The marriages are being performed by Ann Jarema, a non-denominational minister. Hairdressers are reported to be on site to help brides with their appearance, photographers are available and special wedding meals are being served next door at the Dam Site Inn.
